Success is more than economic gains, titles, and degrees. Planning for success is about mapping out all the aspects of your life. Similar to a map, you need to define the following details: origin, destination, vehicle, backpack, landmarks, and route.

Origin:  Who you are

A map has a starting point. Your origin is who you are right now. Most people when asked to introduce themselves would say, “Hi, I’m Jean and I am a 17-year old, senior highschool student.” It does not tell you about who Jean is; it only tells you her present preoccupation. To gain insights about yourself, you need to look closely at your beliefs, values, and principles aside from your economic, professional, cultural, and civil status. Moreover, you can also reflect on your experiences to give you insights on your good and not-so-good traits, skills, knowledge, strengths, and weaknesses. Upon introspection, Jean realized that she was highly motivated, generous, service-oriented, but impatient. Her inclination was in the biological-medical field. Furthermore, she believed that life must serve a purpose, and that wars were destructive to human dignity.

Destination: A vision of who you want to be

“Who do want to be?” this is your vision. Now it is important that you know yourself so that you would have a clearer idea of who you want to be; and the things you want to change whether they are attitudes, habits, or points of view. If you hardly know yourself, then your vision and targets for the future would also be unclear. Your destination should cover all the aspects of your being: the physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual. Continuing Jean’s story, after she defined her beliefs, values, and principles in life, she decided that she wanted to have a life dedicated in serving her fellowmen.

Vehicle: Your Mission

A vehicle is the means by which you can reach your destination. It can be analogized to your mission or vocation in life. To a great extent, your mission would depend on what you know about yourself. Bases on Jean’s self-assessment, she decided that she was suited to become a doctor, and that she wanted to become one. Her chosen vocation was a medical doctor. Describing her vision-mission fully: it was to live a life dedicated to serving her fellowmen as a doctor in conflict-areas.

Travel Bag: Your knowledge, skills, and attitude

Food, drinks, medicines, and other travelling necessities are contained in a bag. Applying this concept to your life map, you also bring with you certain knowledge, skills, and attitudes. These determine your competence and help you in attaining your vision. Given such, there is a need for you to assess what knowledge, skills, and attitudes you have at present and what you need to gain along the way. This two-fold assessment will give you insights on your landmarks or measures of success. Jean realized that she needed to gain professional knowledge and skills on medicine so that she could become a doctor. She knew that she was a bit impatient with people so she realized that this was something she wanted to change.

Landmarks and Route: S.M.A.R.T. objectives

Landmarks confirm if you are on the right track while the route determines the travel time. Thus, in planning out your life, you also need to have landmarks and a route. These landmarks are your measures of success. These measures must be specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time bound. Thus you cannot set two major landmarks such as earning a master’s degree and a doctorate degree within a period of three years, since the minimum number of years to complete a master’s degree is two years. Going back to Jean as an example, she identified the following landmarks in her life map: completing a bachelor’s degree in biology by the age of 21; completing medicine by the age of 27; earning her specialization in infectious diseases by the age of 30; getting deployed in local public hospitals of their town by the age of 32; and serving as doctor in war-torn areas by the age of 35.

Anticipate Turns, Detours, and Potholes

The purpose of your life map is to minimize hasty and spur-of-the-moment decisions that can make you lose your way. But oftentimes our plans are modified along the way due to some inconveniences, delays, and other situations beyond our control. Like in any path, there are turns, detours, and potholes thus; we must anticipate them and adjust accordingly.

“A man is not hurt so much by what happens, as by his opinion of what happens.”
– Michael Eyquem De Montaigne

On my way home from a meeting I came across a very playful dog and his owner. The dog’s tail was wagging and he was jumping up and down with excitement. He was excited to meet the strangers around him and was running around without a worry in the world. The owner was excited to play with him and he was smiling and laughing as the dog jumped up and down to show his affection.

In the everyday world, there are people trapped in an environment of ‘stinking thinking’; living life based on their negative attitude. As I sat there watching this happy dog run around I could not help but think about how a person’s attitude controls their actions and their outlook on life. There are two sides of attitude: the negative and positive sides. Most people choose to live in the negative. Why is this? Why is that people choose to live in that mindset? Is it because they don’t know better? I don’t think so.

The reason I ask these questions is because the dog I was watching had only 3 legs, yet it played like it had four. So many times I’ve come across people who place so much blame on the world or society around them that they live their lives in the ‘poor me’ mindset, or the negative side of attitude.

As I sat there contemplating this, I began to realize that dogs do not let things affect them, no matter what happens. I have never seen a dog down on life, have you? I’m sure that dogs that are mistreated may fear people but, even then, they still will be loyal to their master and when they meet nice people they’re excited and happy. Of course dogs have different moods, sickness, laziness, and are protective just as humans are but they never let life get them down, no matter what. This dog did not look at his handicap as a negative outcome.

I believe one of the reasons they’re never affected by the negative of society is because they don’t know any better; no choice, no problem. They don’t know they have the choice. They associate life as happy and fun. They don’t realize they can be negative or mad at the world. Even if nature has played a cruel trick on them, they just go with it. Just like this dog.

So I ask you, why can’t we live like this dog? Even though it’s a doggy dog world out there, we don’t need to live in the negativity of blame and it should not control our attitude or stop us from getting the most out of life.

Our attitude is not determined by circumstances, but by how we respond to the circumstances. Our mind determines our attitude. We control our mind. We have a choice to either respond positively or negatively. Your life is not determined by what life brings you but how you bring your attitude to life. Like the dog, it is how we react to everything around us that determines our attitude. No matter how bad it may seem, there is always a better side to a negative attitude.

People are being held back from success usually because of fear of success.

When in doubt it brings us down by lowering our confidence and self-esteem. Being afraid of failure to succeed is the most common fear we have.

Once you realize what is causing your fear, you can move to techniques of self-talk to change the conditions. Fear affects the mind and body causing us to let ourselves down as well as others around us.

Never doubt the potential ability a human spirit has to find a way to overcome fear and obstacles in its path, no matter how challenging it may be. Where faith, prayer, determination, patience, and the belief that you can do anything with persistence the supernatural becomes part of your world and everything becomes capable.

The link below shows how one can overcome fears way beyond what we can comprehend. You will be amazed at the abilities that one can create when face with fear and obstacles like this one boy in the video has.  This video is one of the most incredible things I’ve ever seen.

Do not let fear control your life. I am sure Ben Underwood had allot of Self-talk both positive and negative however he chose the path to program his mind to have positive Self-talk. You, like Ben can use Self-talk to help you do anything you want when your using positive thinking. Some people are afraid to climb over a fence. To overcome this fear of going over the fence, tell yourself you can do it. Face it and force yourself to go over the fence to the other side. Overcoming a fear systematically and self-talk your way through each step will help you to accomplish this fear. Think positive that you can and will do it to succeed.

Tell yourself that you are in control of your life and fear is not going to get in the way.  Once you get over the fence, you will gain self-confidence and self-esteem because you told yourself you could do this and you did.

Self-confidence and esteem will help you to overcome other fears as it grows. Once you manage to overcome one fear the next one will be easier because you did it once now you can do it again to get where you want to go in order to succeed. Take control, gain self-confidence with positive thinking, and self-talk.

Use positive thinking and self-talk to learn the techniques of reprogramming your mind to think positive. Do not let your conscious and subconscious tell you that something cannot be done. If you think positive instead of the negative things, you will soon learn that you can do anything you want and succeed by being positive.

Challenge your fears and work your way through the process by being positive. Do you think as Ben Underwood ran from his fears? Do not run from your fears of success.  Make a decision that you can and will become the master at overcoming any fear of success or a certain fear.

In order to become the person you want to be in the future you need to be positive and overcome the fact that you failed once because of thinking negative things. Gaining self-control and thinking process will reprogram you; mind and soon you will be positive thinking and will not even realize it.

Tell yourself that you will take control to unburden your mind and body.  You take all the good and bad things in life with positive thinking. Use positive thinking and self-talking to stay in control. Tell yourself that with confidence and self-esteem you can master anything as Ben Underwood has.

We need to be positive in today’s world and fight the fears of everyday life. Everyday something happens and if we are thinking negative things, all the time our fears will increase and than we lose, self control. Most importantly what you think shall be. You make it true!

We learn from making mistakes and being positive that we can overcome something we can learn from our mistakes and keep them from happening again. Mistakes make all of us a better person for tomorrow. Imagine for a moment the learning curve that Ben Underwood had to go through. Each step was a journey of over coming fears and obstacles to make misstates and learn from them. Ben Underwood self talked taught him to fight and have a positive attitude towards not allowing his handicap to keep him from experiencing life to the fullest.

Being positive will strengthen your confidence and self-esteem to be the person you have always wanted to be.

Direct yourself to take control to disencumber your mind and body. Take the good with the bad and learn how to make it positive. Blurting out to yourself with positive thoughts and inner strength you can be in console. Express yourself with confidence and self-honor so that you can master all obstacles that come your way.

Success is a very expansive and indescribable concept, having many diverse definitions, significance and meanings for each individual. To really accomplish success, one has to create his own concept of success.

key to successThe fact is, man negotiates all day as part of one’s struggle for success. One negotiates with his own self and with others. Subtle sometimes, overt at other times, but negotiating occurs continuously, as your every need is met, as you appeal that your goals will be met.

As negotiation progresses, often you find yourself trading off ideas and even your own values as a person just to achieve success.

Note however that success, as with all things in life is not constant and that the only tradeoff that you will ever make in order to achieve financial, emotional and spiritual success is changing your attitude, for the better, turning the negative to positive and preparing yourself for the shortcomings that will come your way.

A successful individual understands this reality clearly. One would work persistently to establish success in all areas of his.

The reality of life consists of happiness as well difficulties.  Indeed, one can not stay away from difficulties, it is part of one’s journey through success, yet you can be very well prepared for it and know how to deal with it.

Is success accomplished by trading off one’s family for great wealth? Is success attained by trading health for money? Lasting and true success is realized by generating balance in every aspect of one’s life, adding prosperity in all forms everyday on a regular basis.

No trade off should be done and no sacrifice should be made, no transferring a certain goal in exchange of another when one gets to that particular position in his life or obtains something.

Keep in mind that when one gets to that specific position or obtains that certain item, there is no other trade off, but that success has progressed.

You tradeoff your old self to a new, positive and motivated person, living each day with gusto, zeal and zest working towards your set goals.

Success is never a destination, rather it is a journey that one embarks on daily. Success is achieved through giving emphasis on the importance of one’s blessings with affirmative thoughts, actions and words.

No need to trade off, success continues to flow, to thrive and to increase.  One success should not die in exchange for another.  Success is success, in all aspects!

Here are guidelines:

1. Determine what it is you want. Remember, you have the ability to have anything that you desire in your life. When you establish more goals, then there is the possibility that you will achieve more in life. Having a clear vision enables you to have direction what route to take and you are guaranteed that you will reach that goal.

2.  Write down your goals. Write all of it down and affirm it.  Make concrete plans and pull everything in your mind. Writing your vision you enable you to pull your spiritual, physical, and emotional powers in position to accomplish your goals and vision. Your body, mind and the subconscious within will work together and attract positive forces.

3.  Establish a “time frame” for all your vision and goals. Fix a target that you need to accomplish for a certain period of time.  Set deadlines for your goals, so that there will be more possibility that you can accomplish it.  Then, after you have accomplished a certain goal, move on to the next.  This is what is meant by success that flows.

4.  Accomplishing your goal takes work in succession. Make a record of the actions that you need to do so to accomplish each goal.  Make it in such a manner that it will be easy for you to follow, such as the most important ones comes first.

5.  Examine your list of activities and make sure they are in order. Work out on a step-by-step comprehensive plan to accomplish your goal.  Never delay and accept no excuses, start on the first activity now! While you are working on an activity, do not go ahead and move to the next until you are finished.

Move ahead and never be afraid to achieve success.  There are no tradeoffs, just a stronger, more positive, more aggressive and more complete “you” will emerge.  Success flows and you never have to trade off success in one aspect for another.  Move on and live that life the way you want it to be!

We have seen, the competition is high in the MLM/Network Marketing industry today. New programs are popping up teamworkevery day promising the proverbial ‘Pot Of Gold’ by just sliding your credit card and no work is involved. No sponsoring, no phone calling, no selling, no advertising, no nothing – Just buy product every month and in less than a year you will be an instant $Millionaire! We have seen this in some MLM motivation articles and home business papers lately.

Well, we know more than likely that is not going to happen. It defies the basic law of network marketing and that is: E + E = R –  Energy plus Effort equals Results. And you can add a little money into the equation also. Seasoned professionals are very aware of this fact and the really smart ones capitalize on it and heres how.

Used to be, people who jump from program to program where called ‘MLM Junkies’. Back in the day when cash flowed like water, programs where relatively cheap to join and the market was not flooded with choices. Oh, and a key point here – Most programs where ‘Reputable’ and did not hit and run as some do today. To us, the MLM Junkie had value. They would get excited, bring in a a few qualified members and stay active for at least 6 months. Their downstream would grow and a little money would be generated each month, and that was a good thing but we wanted to retain them also.

Power Builders could spot these people early on and knew what to do. In the old days we would phone the MLM company we where in and request a ‘Downline Print Out’. An awesome tool if used correctly that could greatly accelerate our business. We would go through our print out and write down the members who where regularly sponsoring people into their business and noting the people THEY sponsored who where actively sponsoring people. Paying special attention to the MLM Junkies people they sponsored, we would make personal contact with those people by phone and if possible meeting with them, and help them with ideas and sometimes perks. We would show them how to sponsor more people and move more product. Since they had proven their self  by their business building activity they where a good investment. This worked out great and is only one of many ways to use your downstream stats. Think about this.

Looking at the big picture here you can see what happens. We would get the attention of the MLM Junkie because his income would increase so he would start to do more and not be so quick to bail out into another program or start put less time into the other programs he was in, in favor of ours. We would be able to focus a little energy on his people who had potential, keep our downstream growing and overall stop any potential for attrition before it became a possibility. It always amazed me at how receptive these people where to the knowledge and attention we would give them and the return was always positive for everyone. Some have become years long friends and current business associates.

Today, the hyper-marketing of many programs out there can turn many peoples energy away from their primary network marketing business by the promise of someone else doing all the work and getting instant income for doing little to nothing for it. Most of the people who would fall for this are not what we used to call MLM Junkies. Because of the economic conditions today many are looking for quick results – And that is where you come in.

To keep your retention high and attrition low – GO THE EXTRA MILE!

Seek out those people who are active in your business and help THEM help the people in their downstream see progress and profit. When people are realizing progress they are not going to be so quick to jump into another program no matter how good it may look. Every qualified member in your business is high value – Even if they as yet have not sponsored anyone, they have the potential to. They are there and it is a lot easier to work with them than go out and sponsor someone else isn’t it? Other than your key players, all most of the people in your network need is personal contact from you to get activated. Make a list of the most active to the least active and make some phone calls. Send out a personal e-mail to them letting them know who you are and that you are a business builder, coach and mentor with your program and you are more than willing to help them reach their lifestyle and financial goals. Include in that e-mail 3 methods that have successfully helped people increase their income with your program and that you are willing to personally guide them through all the steps. You can easily do this through e-mail, over the phone or video conference. Make contact and stick to them.

In todays economy every member of your team is high value and there are a few Power Builders in there and all they need to start building their business is your contact and mentoring!

To Your Success!

The technology and tools for internet marketing are advancing faster than most people can stay up with. It seems like every day there is something new to help us more effectively get our product and income programs in front of more and more people but interestingly, many people do not use these tools and end up expending a lot of energy trying to3685260 ‘Sell’ their products and income opportunities when that energy will be better spent ‘Marketing’ their self and building their business. Statistics show that higher results are realized when a person makes full use of the tools available to them through stand alone resources available on the internet and most importantly, the automated marketing resources available to them in the back office of the marketing business they are building.

Resources such as company produced recorded messages, sizzle sessions, webcasts, webtv productions and company produced DVD’s that are made available are invaluable tools that are proven to produce good results in explaining your companies products, services and marketing programs. Making use of these tools allows you more time to keep building your business and gives you a proven training and mentoring tool that your members can easily duplicate.

Many ‘Seasoned’ network marketers will copy and paste text directly from their companies website into e-mails that they send out to introduce the product and program to people on their list. This is good thinking because not only did their prospect read key points in the e-mail they received, they will also  read it in context when they visit the programs website to get all the details and join the program. This is a subtile form of  ‘Branding’. When a person sees certain phrases or words, like peoples names, over and over again they will associates that word directly to a specific result. This system gets very good results and is easy for a new member to personalize and duplicate.

Another point many people will miss is to let their programs auto responder ‘Do The Selling’. Nearly every program out there has invested serious money engineering the e-mail messages that are sent to your prospect via their auto responder that keeps enticing them to become a ‘Qualified’ member of your income opportunity. By taking full advantage of their auto responder you can let it do the selling and make regular phone contact with that person and still have plenty of time to be out their ‘Mining’ new people to interest in your business. This is a huge time saver and between the auto responder and your personal calls you will be pleased with the positive outcome.

The real key here is to let Technology do the ‘Selling’ and ‘Market’ yourself as the Professional Marketer and as a Mentor who will always be their to help them meet reach their goals.

Why Coaching is Better Than Teaching in the MLM world.coaching

When you hear the word “coach”, what comes first into your mind? Do you picture a basketball team with a man/woman shouting out directions? Or perhaps a football team with a man/woman pacing to and fro and calling out the names of the players?

Coaching is no longer reserved to sports teams; it is now one of the key concepts in leadership and management. Why is coaching popular?

Coaching levels the playing field.

Coaching is one of the six emotional leadership styles proposed by Daniel Goleman. Moreover, it is a behavior or role that leaders enforce in the context of situational leadership. As a leadership style, coaching is used when the members of a group or team are competent and motivated, but do not have an idea of the long-term goals of an organization. This involves two levels of coaching: team and individual. Team coaching makes members work together. In a group of individuals, not everyone may have nor share the same level of competence and commitment to a goal. A group may be a mix of highly competent and moderately competent members with varying levels of commitment. These differences can cause friction among the members. The coaching leader helps the members level their expectations. Also, the coaching leader manages differing perspectives so that the common goal succeeds over personal goals and interests. In a big organization, leaders need to align the staffs’ personal values and goals with that of the organization so that long-term directions can be pursued.

Coaching builds up confidence and competence.

Individual coaching is an example of situational leadership at work. It aims to mentor one-on-one building up the confidence of members by affirming good performance during regular feedbacks; and increase competence by helping the member assess his/her strengths and weaknesses towards career planning and professional development. Depending on the individual’s level of competence and commitment, a leader may exercise more coaching behavior for the less-experienced members. Usually, this happens in the case of new staffs. The direct supervisor gives more defined tasks and holds regular feedbacks for the new staff, and gradually lessens the amount of coaching, directing, and supporting roles to favor delegating as competence and confidence increase.

Coaching promotes individual and team excellence.

Excellence is a product of habitual good practice. The regularity of meetings and constructive feedback is important in establishing habits. Members catch the habit of constantly assessing themselves for their strengths and areas for improvement that they themselves perceive what knowledge, skills, and attitudes they need to acquire to attain team goals. In the process, they attain individually excellence as well. An example is in the case of a musical orchestra: each member plays a different instrument. In order to achieve harmony of music from the different instrument, members will polish their part in the piece, aside from practicing as an ensemble. Consequently, they improve individually as an instrument player.

Coaching develops high commitment to common goals.

A coaching leader balances the attainment of immediate targets with long-term goals towards the vision of an organization. As mentioned earlier, with the alignment of personal goals with organizational or team goals, personal interests are kept in check. By constantly communicating the vision through formal and informal conversations, the members are inspired and motivated. Setting short-term team goals aligned with organizational goals; and making an action plan to attain these goals can help sustain the increased motivation and commitment to common goals of the members.

Coaching produces valuable leaders.

Leadership by example is important in coaching. A coaching leader loses credibility when he/she cannot practice what he/she preaches. This means that a coaching leader should be well organized, highly competent is his/her field, communicates openly and encourages feedback, and has a clear idea of the organization’s vision-mission-goals. By vicarious and purposive learning, members catch the same good practices and attitudes from the coaching leader, turning them into coaching leaders themselves. If a member experiences good coaching, he/she is most likely to do the same things when entrusted with formal leadership roles.

Some words of caution though: coaching is just one of the styles of leadership. It can be done in combination with the other five emotional leadership styles depending on the profile of the emerging team. Moreover, coaching as a leadership style requires that you are physically, emotionally, and mentally fit most of the time since it involves two levels of coaching: individual and team. Your members expect you to be the last one to give up or bail out in any situation especially during times of crises. A coaching leader must be conscious that coaching entails investing time on each individual, and on the whole team. Moreover, that the responsibilities are greater since while you are coaching members, you are also developing future coaches as well.
